Find Installation Accessories Locally

We offer installation accessories because they make the job easier, not because they need to come from us. If an accessory is unavailable from Asphalt Anchors, use this guide to find a compatible item locally or from the retailer of your choice.

Use a masonry bit with the correct shank for your rotary hammer. We generally recommend a long-format bit, commonly sold as 22 to 23 inches long. The extra reach makes it easier to drill while standing upright.

Usable drilling length is not the same as the bit’s overall length. Check the manufacturer’s specifications before purchasing. The bit’s usable drilling length must be greater than the required hole depth shown below.

For an SP58, look for a 1-1/2 in. SDS-Max masonry bit with more than 10 inches of usable drilling length. We prefer long-format bits with about 18 inches of usable length because they let you work more upright.

SDS-Max and SDS-Plus are different shank systems. An SDS-Max bit will not fit an SDS-Plus rotary hammer, and an SDS-Plus bit will not fit an SDS-Max rotary hammer. Confirm the shank matches your drill before buying.

These bits will all work:

Availability and pricing change. You do not need one of these exact products; any bit that matches the diameter, SDS-Max shank, and usable-length requirements will work.

SP10, AM625, SP12, and SP18 use SDS-Plus bits, but they do not all use the same diameter. Confirm the model and use the table above before purchasing. In particular, the 7/8 in. bit for SP10/AM625 and SP12 is not a substitute for the 1 in. bit required for SP18.

EPX2 is a rapid-setting, expanding cement adhesive. When it is unavailable, Damtite Anchoring Cement and QUIKRETE Anchoring Cement are locally available alternatives.

Use only rapid-setting anchoring cement intended to secure anchors. Do not substitute ordinary concrete mix, mortar, or general-purpose construction adhesive.

Follow the alternate product’s label for mixing and working time, and continue to follow the installation requirements for a clean, dry hole. Do not use cement-based adhesive in standing water, active rain, or below its stated application temperature. If the hole cannot be dried, use an appropriate wet-condition adhesive instead. Locking drill-bit extension for hole cleaning

Use a locking drill-bit extension with the hole-cleaning brush so the brush can reach the full depth of the drilled hole. The locking feature helps keep the brush connected while it is rotated and moved up and down in the hole.

Choose an extension that is compatible with both your drill and the brush drive. This cleaning step does not require an SDS rotary hammer; any compatible drill can be used. See Clean the Hole Before Installing Asphalt Anchors for the cleaning procedure.

Confirm these four details against your anchor model:

  1. Bit diameter
  2. SDS-Plus or SDS-Max shank
  3. Usable drilling length greater than the required hole depth
  4. Carbide-tipped construction if faster drilling is important
